Chapter Six

My shower is long and cool, using the water to lower my temperature as my skin continues to burn with longing. My fingers linger over my sex for much longer than necessary, my second set of lips still swollen from Adam’s pleasurable beating.

After a debate, I decide against pleasuring myself, although I know I could use something to take off the edge. I can’t match Adam, and there’s no reason to tease myself.

Sitting on the edge of my bed, I turn on the air conditioner, allowing the cool air to dry my body as my hands drop to my breasts, massaging my nipples slowly.

Suddenly, the air conditioner and lights cut off, leaving me alone in the dark, my body awakened yet again. A jerking sensation, which feels comparable to an earthquake, brings me to a sitting position, and then the lights flicker and turn back on.

Could this night get any stranger? I think to myself as I rush to grab a white, strapless maxi dress from my luggage, using it as a robe as I rush to my feet, hearing voices outside my bedroom. Opening the door, I’m greeted by a group of people, from their ruckus, concerned about the shaking.

“What was that?”

“Should we be worried?”

“I’m going to ask what’s going on,” someone says.

The voices of my neighbors are fearful, and as I take in their faces, I notice it’s the first time I’ve ever seen them.

“Sometimes there’s turbulence in the water, just like in the air,” a woman adds, trying to calm the frenzy.

“Yeah, but it doesn’t make the power go out,” an older man grumbles, seemingly upset by the disruption.

“Do you know what happened?” the woman asks a group walking up the hallway.

“Just a little turbulence,” a man answers.

“I told you!” she yells, but I can’t be bothered by their argument, because my ears are piqued with interest at the strange, yet familiar voice of the man. Just when I place the sound, I see his face, those brown eyes back to their normal hue, gleaming as he approaches me.

“There you are,” Adam smiles, and my heart sinks at the glimpse of his perfectly straight teeth. The group continues without him as he stops in front of my door.

“I couldn’t find you,” I explain as he wraps his fingers around my neck, pulling me into him before taking my mouth.

“I had to shower. Come to my room.” He drapes his hand over my shoulder and begins to walk down the hall before I’ve even responded.

Back under his spell, I realize I’ve gone with him without even retrieving shoes, the hard carpet tickling my feet. His relaxed demeanor takes me by surprise. Gone is the needy man from the bar; now he is calm and patient. While his hand could easily be roaming and groping, he’s chosen to just rest his arm around my shoulder.

I can’t decide whether to be excited by the change in pace, or disappointed. I’m happy to have found him, but I want more of what I had earlier.
